Why choose Phoenix Foundation?

Donors and recipients as well as everyone in the Boundary could rightfully feel that the Phoenix Foundation of the Boundary Communities is their Foundation. Individuals from our communities, individuals who had a strong desire to improve life within our communities, founded the Phoenix Foundation. The Directors and Advisors reflect the diversity of, and proportionately represent, our communities. We are truly a Boundary organization. Boundary donations are received, invested, managed, and distributed by our colleagues, friends and neighbours. Local Charities identify the needs in our communities and through a grant application justify those needs. If the application is found worthy, the charity receives the grant, addresses the need and in the process leverages other contributions and a tremendous amount of volunteer effort. This truly builds community capacity - the capacity to address our needs with resources from within our communities.

The Phoenix Foundation, as other Community Foundations in Canada, offers the donor a broad variety of options and counseling. The Donor may wish to open a named fund and have the perpetual stream of revenues from that fund go to a specific cause, a qualified charity, a scholarship, or our community fund. The Donor who is financially limited to a modest donation may wish to contribute to one of our Agency, Scholarship, Memorial, or Field of Interest Funds. Many choose to contribute to the Community Fund which addresses the more urgent immediate needs of our communities through grants to local qualified

charities. Whichever option is chosen, the benefits from the donation stay in the Boundary communities.

Phoenix Foundation is an ideal choice for the donor who would like to make a long-term difference. All donations are placed in a permanent endowment and prudently invested. Only the earnings are distributed through grants to qualified charities for worthy local projects. Consider a $10,000 donation received on Phoenix Foundation’s inception date. As of April 30th this year it has returned approximately $4,000 that was distributed through grants, and thanks to the inflation hedge, is now worth $11,483.14. This is a powerful concept. The gift continually maintains its value and simply keeps on giving forever.

Phoenix Foundation strives for the highest standards of stewardship, accountability and transparency. We believe this is essential in securing and maintaining your trust. In fact anyone in the Boundary who has a question or a concern more than likely knows someone involved with the Foundation that could answer the question or address the concern.
